Bethany Mitchell, from Franklin College in North East Lincolnshire, completed a week’s Virtual Work Experience placement with Reward Gateway. Here, she tells us how this new experience gave her skills, confidence and knowledge for the future.
We completed a range of group activities. During one of them we split into small groups and had to come up with ideas on how to engage employees for a company that we had made, and then had to present it the next day. Working with the other students was so much fun! We laughed a lot and it made me feel so at ease.
It was a bit strange at first working with people and not being able to see them face to face, but I quickly adjusted. I really enjoyed having the chance to work with new people from across the country and made lots of new friends. I also had the opportunity to network with the team at Reward Gateway, it was a great learning experience that got me out of my comfort zone.
This experience has really made me consider my future career plans, and whether I actually want to do what I’d planned to and pursue a STEM related degree. I’ve always had a more creative side but I ignored it a bit as I thought STEM subjects were a more logical choice. I’ve now decided to take a gap year to think more about it and look into other subjects like marketing, which is what I learned about during my virtual work experience.
I actually miss the Reward Gateway team, they were all so kind and welcoming. Deciding to participate in this Virtual Workplace Experience was really made on a whim, but it’s one of the best things I’ve ever done.
