Connor Dagger, from Blackpool Sixth Form College, completed a 2-week Virtual Work Experience placement with Pladis Global in 2020. Here, he shares how the experience gave him skills, confidence, and knowledge to prepare for the future.
During my work experience with Pladis Global, I worked with a team of other interns on a presentation for introducing a new brand into the gaming market. We considered marketing and pricing strategies and created an entirely new product for gamers.
At the end of the two-weeks, we presentated our marketing pitch to the team at Pladis and talked them through our strategy for a product launch.
My presentation skills and confidence definitely improved from working on this project, and I became more comfortable using online video platforms to present and speak to people. As a culmination of all our hard work it was very rewarding.
My time with Pladis was led by really friendly and supportive staff,. And I was able to learn a lot from their experience and insights. I especially enjoyed asking the Director of HR questions about their role and the wider Pladis organisation. I discovered that there’s a range of appealing roles in the industry and it opened my eyes to apprenticeships as an alternate route to university.
The whole experience at Pladis has given me a real boost and brought me closer to my career ambitions.
I got so much from the time I spent with Pladis that at the end of the two weeks I was offered a mentor to help with my employability skills and advise on my aspirations going forward.
During the summer, I also attended lots of virtual sessions included as a part of the Career Ready Skills Festival, from building rapport with people to interview techniques. As well as skills sessions I got plenty of insight into industries that wouldn’t have even crossed my mind before.
