Charlotte Boylin, from Ashby Sixth Form in the East Midlands, enjoyed a four-week paid internship at SEGRO. Find out how this opportunity helped her grow, broadening her horizons and inspiring her to apply for an apprenticeship.
Before joining the Career Ready programme, Charlotte struggled with her confidence and didn’t know where her career was headed. But her internship at SEGRO helped change that.
“My internship at SEGRO really helped me gain a better understanding of the world of work, preparing me for real life situations like interviews and networking. I developed so many transferable skills that I’ll take with me into the work environment.”
Invaluable insights into the world of work
During her internship, Charlotte got the chance to develop her skills and gain crucial work experience – including attending events and site visits in Coventry and Northampton.
“I learned how to communicate more effectively, through speaking to different people from the parish council to the CEO!”
She also heard from members of the team about their own journeys, which inspired a positive attitude towards her own future.
“My internship gave me an incredible opportunity to learn about the different job roles that I could potentially progress into – being able to speak to professionals and learn about their career paths was so inspiring.”
Charlotte’s internship helped her become more confident and motivated to build a successful future – growth that she felt was made possible through the support of her supervisors.
“Their encouragement pushed me to explore innovative solutions and think outside the box – allowing me to make meaningful contributions to the projects I was involved in.”
Seeing positive impact in action
Charlotte’s journey with SEGRO gave her a real insight into the work they do, highlighting their commitment to positive impact at every level – something that has empowered her to do the same in her own career.
“One of the most rewarding aspects of my internship was witnessing the positive impact of SEGRO’s developments on local communities. It was interesting to see how the organisation prioritises sustainability, inclusivity, and social responsibility in all their projects. It reinforced my belief that the world of property development can be a force for positive change and has given me the confidence to pursue my dreams to make a meaningful difference in the world.”
Her time at SEGRO highlighted just how much employers can benefit from the perspective of young people – Charlotte was able to offer further insights into engaging with young people online.
“I loved completing my presentation exploring engagement strategies for a new development and how social media can be used to connect with the younger generation. It was really rewarding to share my knowledge with my colleagues.”
Next steps towards a rewarding future
After her time at SEGRO – and with the skills she’s built on the Career Ready programme – Charlotte is looking forward to taking her next career steps.
“I loved the administrative side of my role and being able to communicate with people all the time, and am now on a business admin apprenticeship!”
