Muhammed, Stephen, Casey and Amarjeet from Glasgow completed their four-week paid internships with Scottish Water. They share their Career Ready stories in this creative video.
Each intern has taken something different from their experience with Scottish Water.
“I’ve learned how to talk and work with people in a professional way, and also how to organise my day and meet deadlines,” says Muhammed.
“My mentor Chloe has been great. She’s very on top of things, and she’s made sure I am, too,” says Stephen.
“It helped me build my confidence and improve my communication skills,” Casey says.
“It’s allowed me to explore multiple career opportunities, and I learned that you’re not always just limited to one career in your life,” Amarjeet says.
And for mentor Paul, it’s also been a learning experience.
“Get involved,” he says. “Couldn’t recommend it highly enough.”

Hey everyone, Welcome to Career Ready Intern Diaries
season one, episode one.
We hope you haven’t waited long.
We’re going to start our video off with some interviews from our Career Ready interns.
So let’s head down to where they’re working hard.
What have you learned throughout your internship so far?
I’ve learned how to talk and work with different people in a professional way, and also how to organize my day and meet deadlines.
And also had to work well with other people to complete my project.
Stephen.
How has your mentor helped you so far?
Chloe’s been great.
We’d meet for a coffee every month before I joined Scottish Water.
And since then, she’s helped me with my group project and personal presentation.
She’s very on top of things, and she’s made sure I am, too.
Why do you think Career Ready has been a good opportunity for you?
It helped me build my confidence and improve my communication skills better than they were before I joined the Career Ready programme, and it helped me network and create reliable relationships with other interns and staff, which means I also get to leave with good friends.
What have you been up to so far throughout your internship?
So throughout my internship, I have spent most of my time in the office completing personal and group projects, but there were lots of times where me and the other interns got to travel to Edinburgh to different sites, one of them being a marketing company, and this allowed me to explore multiple career opportunities.
And I learned that you’re not always just limited to one career in your life.
Hey Paul, as a mentor, what made you want to choose Career Ready?
When you think about becoming involved in Career Ready, your initial thoughts will probably be around what you can give to your mentee.
What my biggest learning has been, is what I’ve got from a mentee.
New presentation skills, cooking tips, and a new genre of cinema: K zombies – who knew?
Get involved. Couldn’t recommend it highly enough.
