Who are you?

My name is Fazila Deen and I’m a student at Petchey Academy. I won the Sir Winfried Bischoff Award for London and the South East in 2016.

How did you feel before you started the programme?

I was not a confident individual and I had no idea what I was doing in life. I didn’t do very well in my first set of A-Level results and I lacked motivation and self-esteem.

What influenced you the most during your time on the programme?

My mentor really inspired me to work hard and believe in myself. She gave me advice and helped me grab every opportunity with both hands. I worked hard and made the most of these opportunities and I gained valuable experience at Deloitte and RBS.

How do you feel to have won the award?

The award is really important to me because it proves that I do believe in myself and I can do it!

I needed initial support, but now I’ve got that boost I want to keep going.

What skills have you developed from Career Ready?

A variety – from presenting to interacting. My experience at RBS and Deloitte helped me to decide that I want to be a consultant. I have developed my confidence massively and built up my self-esteem.

Without Career Ready I would not be confident and I would not have a clear career path. Now I have all the skills I need to succeed in the future.
