Maria, a student at the Oldham College, completed a paid internship with our partners Turner & Townsend in Manchester, where her mentor Olawale also works. She shared a day in the life of her internship.
“The internship made me realise, the moment you walk into the right room, you get to learn new skills,” says Maria.
She captured her experience at Turner & Townsend’s Manchester office in a day in the life video – from learning about different departments and being professional on Teams meetings, to creating her own presentations and working with the other interns:
“During the internship, I enjoyed handling pressure and remaining concise and clear about anything being said in a corporate manner,” Maria reflects. “The other interns had a similar mindset as myself, so it became rather easy working together.
“I also liked the networking; I’m sure it’ll give me access to better opportunities in the future.”
The experience at Turner & Townsend helped Maria find out about different career opportunities in the organisation, and in the built environment sector.
“I learned more about apprenticeships and new roles, such as quantity surveying, which I now find incredibly interesting,” she says.
“The experience opens up previously unknown doors in your mind, where you thought there were only walls.”
