Jakub Bieganski from St Mungo’s High School, our 2019 Standard Life Aberdeen Student of the Year for Forth Valley, enjoyed a paid internship and mentoring at Springfield Properties. Here, he shares how the experience has given him the skills, confidence and opportunity to kickstart a rewarding future.

I always used to be uncertain about my future but, thanks to Career Ready and the support of Andrew, my mentor, I am now much more optimistic and confident. My plan is to become a graphic designer and the internship I experienced at Springfield Properties has really helped bring me closer to this dream.

During my internship, I learnt a lot when it comes to graphic design as I did a lot of advert design for the property listing paper ESPC. I also created a video advert for use on Facebook, which was exciting as Springfield have never had a video advert before. This was my favourite moment of the internship as it truly felt as though I had made a big contribution to the business.

I’m really grateful for all the amazing people I’ve met through Career Ready.

The team at Springfield, including my mentor, were so supportive and taught me most things about marketing, advertising and the tools used in the job. Their advice was to keep on working hard and carry on forward towards my goals.

I’m currently in the process of applying for different colleges to study HND graphic design. After I’ve completed my studies and gained more experience, my plan is to become a freelance designer, illustrator and photographer.
