For Isidore, a student at the College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London, a paid internship with CBRE has sparked a passion for real estate. That, and support from mentor David at Citi, has seen him build confidence and a plan for the future. This is his story.
“After my internship, I’m more interested in the real estate industry and I’m seeking to have a career within it,” says Isidore.
His four-week paid internship with commercial real estate and investment firm CBRE took him to the firm’s Operational Real Estate department.
“I learnt a lot about the department – the differences between sections within it like health care and leisure; the key components which are purchase and sale, SREC, Data Management, Development Appraisals,” he says.
“One of my favourite moments was when we got to visit other departments, such as Environmental, Social and Governance. It helped me gain further insight into the business and how the real estate industry works.
“The internship helped me grow a real interest in working in real estate.”
The power of a mentor
Isidore also had support from mentor David Easey, CAO/Global Risk Manager at Citi.
“The benefit of having a mentor is if I have any questions I need answered or advice on something I have someone who I may ask,” he says.
“My mentor has provided me tips for my future as well as describing various routes I can take. He provided me advice on what I could do after uni or an apprenticeship.”
Building confidence
Through Career Ready, Isidore has seen an increase his confidence.
“Before the programme I would say I was unsure of myself – not sure how to carry myself within an interview or a workplace,” he says. “I lacked confidence.
“In the Know Yourself masterclass, I learnt to look at myself and understand myself while also trying to evolve and change myself for the better. It provided me confidence and a deeper understanding of myself and the professional world.
“After the programme I understand how to carry myself and gained confidence with professional settings.
“It is a truly life changing experience that provides you with the skills, knowledge and resources you will need for your future plans.”
