Sanjidah Musthafa, from George Green’s school in London, completed a two-week paid internship with Savills. Here, she tells us what she learnt and how it opened her eyes to the real estate sector and the workplace.
An insight into real estate
I’d had no real work experience before my internship at Savills. I wasn’t well informed about the real estate sector or open-minded to career paths beyond what I already had an interest in.
I got to experience the real life, day-to-day of a working office during my internship. Everyone was really friendly and I enjoyed the fast pace. Every day was different. I worked with the leasing team and went on viewings, created templates on potential clients and made slides for individual properties.
This opportunity has helped me feel more comfortable in a professional environment and boosted my confidence, especially talking to new people. I gained a deeper insight into real estate and am feeling much more open-minded about what I might do in the future.
Preparing young people for the working world
I think that internships are very important, they open so many doors for young people. It’s the opportunity to build new professional connections and networks. It helps you develop skills and builds confidence. Having real-life work experience prepares us for the working world.
