Tani Ilemobola, from Woodhouse College in London, has completed a six-week paid internship with Morgan Stanley, a financial services company. Here, Tani tells us about what she learnt and how it has opened her eyes to the world of work.

I felt like there were no opportunities available to me

I would say I was always motivated and ambitious about my future, but I felt like I had no work experience opportunities available to me.

During my time on the Career Ready programme, I completed an internship in the EMEA Operations Governance and Oversight team at Morgan Stanley. I did a mixture of things from event planning and networking to creating spreadsheets and designing posters.

Learning new skills and making new connections

I really underestimated how important time management was at work, but by being given multiple projects, I learnt the value of hard work and ensuring deadlines were met on time.

The best part was without a doubt going into the office at Canary Wharf. Everyone was so welcoming, and I felt like a ‘real adult’. I met some amazing people and made connections I know I will have for life. The experience has definitely changed me.

This experience helped kick start my future

I think internship opportunities are essential for young people. During the pandemic I felt isolated and demotivated, but my internship helped me overcome that feeling by giving me purpose and helping me learn new skills.

Currently I plan to become a Solicitor and Career Ready has really helped me gain the confidence, skills and knowledge of the workplace to kick start that future.

Get involved today and help more young people like Tani kickstart their futures.
