Miriam Olaiya from Westminster Kingsway college in London completed a four-week paid internship with the creative agency 23Red. Here, she tells us how the experience boosted her confidence and opened her eyes to a new industry.

I felt like part of the team

Before my internship with 23Red I was shy and lacking in confidence. I had work experience, but in more customer service type roles. This was my first professional role.

I worked with the creative, strategy and PR team and was responsible for projects like a social media take over, where I had to share my experience as an intern. The best part of my internship was the people. Everyone was so welcoming and understanding, I felt like part of the team when I went into the office.

Being a Career Ready internship supervisor is an exciting opportunity to see what emerging young talent is out there. I’ve been able to develop my managerial style and learn about what support young people coming into the industry need. To watch our mentees grow over the four weeks was such a rewarding experience.

The opportunity to learn new, transferable skills

This experience has helped me develop insight into an industry I didn’t know anything about and learn new skills that I’ll be able to take forward and use in any type of workplace. Currently my plan for the future is to go to university and study politics.

Get involved today and help more young people like Miriam kickstart their futures.
