Career Ready & Glasgow – working together in partnership

Glasgow was one of the first Local Authority areas in Scotland to join the Career Ready network, supported by Morgan Stanley and subsequently Diageo, and our relationship has since gone from strength to strength. From working with 3 schools and 17 students in 2011, we now work with all 30 secondary schools in the city and support over 300 students.

How we work together

Our partnership with Glasgow City Council supports the extensive commitment of the Education Services Directorate in ensuring that every young person in Glasgow has the opportunity to reach a positive post-school destination and kickstart a successful future.

Around 100 businesses work closely with schools, helping young people reach their full potential. As chair of the Local Advisory Board, it is both inspiring and rewarding to see employers want to make a real difference.

Morgan Stanley has been an employer supporter of Career Ready since 2010. Our ability to attract and employ young people has been enhanced through our partnership. Helping individuals to develop their skills, self-belief and to experience working life is a true privilege.

This is achieved through:

  • Committed support of the Local Authority Co-ordinators within the Employment Skills Partnership Team
  • Passionate engagement by our partner school’s headteachers and Career Ready coordinators
  • Inspiring collaborative work of our Local Advisory Board, led by Simone Lockart of Taranata Group

The dedicated and tailored support from Career Ready and the commitment of the huge network of Glasgow employers makes this a key partnership in assisting with the council’s mission to improve the career prospects of young people in Glasgow.

The difference we’ve made together

A key focus of our schools is to make sure that every young person is given equal access to opportunities that will equip them with the qualifications and life skills that will ensure a positive destination to either employment, training or further and higher education.

Working with Career Ready has seen our secondary schools complement this work and is helping to motivate our young people into achieving their correct destination and future pathways.

You just have to look at positive post school destination figures and highlighted in our recently published inspection report by Education Scotland and the great work our schools are doing in partnership with initiatives like Career Ready.
