Ansab Ahsan is the Chair of our Youth Advisory Board, who support our team by providing insights, ideas and fresh perspectives.
Ansab first experienced Career Ready in 2014, as a student at Warwickshire College. He completed an internship with Unipart Eberspacher Exhaust Systems, which helped him explore the world of engineering.
In 2023 Ansab, now a Civil Engineer working at Mott MacDonald, became a mentor.
In the video, he shares a little about his Career Ready journey.
Video transcript:
The programme had a very big impact on me, especially coming from a working class family.
It exposed me to the world of work, it sort of gave me steer and direction as to what career I wanted to take.
I always knew I wanted to be an engineer. I did a mechanical engineering internship, and I quickly learned it wasn’t for me. And then I decided to go down the civil engineering route.
I then transitioned into being a mentor over the last two years. I sort of wanted to give back, especially knowing the impact it has had on me.
The mentor experience is really rewarding. Helping kids from similar situations to what I used to be in, passing on my learning and my experiences, and sort of helping them break into the world of work.
I’m now the Chair of the Youth Advisory Board. The board is fairly diverse, it’s made up of 16-25 year olds, and my main role is to stimulate meaningful conversations. So it really provides that fresh perspective, and an array of ideas.
Career Ready is very important because it really gives that support, that platform, and that stepping stone into a student’s future goals.
