About our partnership
Our work has hugely increased our impact where we’re needed most and changed the lives of young people up and down the country – and we’re extremely proud to have been nominated for a Charity Times award for our work together.
Bupa’s commitment and drive for boosting social mobility has led to significant growth in our partnership over the last 3 years, which hasn’t just given students access to the Career Ready programme, but post-18 employment opportunities too.
What we’ve achieved together
Northern investment
By supporting our regional operation costs, Bupa have made a three-year commitment to invest in young people across the North of England, an area which is a core part of their community investment strategy. This enabled us to recruit 700 students and mentors by 2024, placing 600 of them into paid internships at our network of corporate partners, SMEs, and charity partners.
Last year, we were able to support 198 young people in 23 schools and colleges across the North of England, helping them develop crucial skills in a real-life context with paid internships, workplace visits and professional workshops.
Internship investment funding
SMEs, charities and the public sector are the backbone of local communities, and can be powerful drivers in levelling up young talent.
Our Internship Investment Fund provides funding for eligible SMEs and charity partners to host a paid internship – helping us grow our footprint in areas where there is limited presence of larger businesses and workplace opportunities. Since its launch, the Bupa Foundation have supported 40 students into an internship in the charity sector.
Creating inclusive workplaces
Early careers support can hugely impact a young person’s life. And for disabled people, who are twice as likely to be unemployed compared to non-disabled people, having access to the world of work is even more vital.
Our joint project with ParalympicsGB and Scope helps young disabled people reach their full potential through placements on the Career Ready programme and a 4-week, paid internship. So far, we’ve supported 6 disabled students in their internship.
