On Wednesday 09 December, 1,128 young people from across England, Wales, and Northern Ireland came together for a digital ‘A Capital Experience’ to launch the 2020-22 Career Ready programme.
Thanks to the support of 18 of the UK’s top employers, students aged 16-18 enjoyed a day of digital skills masterclasses, workplace visits, and inspiration.
Over the next 18 months, students on the Career Ready programme will receive the employer support they need to develop vital workplace skills, confidence, and experience:
We’re absolutely delighted to be launching Career Ready 2020-22 in partnership with our network of employer supporters. Together, we will ensure that young people on our programme are empowered to kickstart their futures.
There has never been a more critical time to support young people so I would like to say a big thank you to all those employers who made A Capital Experience possible and whose continued support will make a lasting difference to the lives of young people.
Tokunbo Ajasa-Oluwa, Career Ready CEO
A Capital Experience was made possible thanks to the support of the Citi Foundation, a long-term supporter of Career Ready, as well as the following employers who provided digital workplace visits:
Research shows that workplace visits and employer engagement are crucial in helping young people become career ready, as ‘young adults who recall four or more employer-led activities at school are five times less likely to be NEET’.
A recent report by Career Ready into the long-term impact of the programme found that:
- 95% of alumni obtained further or higher education qualifications
- 87% of alumni said Career Ready had a positive impact on their life
- 72% of alumni said their internship helped them meet people who could support them with their career
