Anne Spackman, Chief Executive Officer, has announced that she is stepping down from the role at the end of 2019 after six years of leading the organisation. Anne joined Career Ready in 2013, after a career in journalism at The Times and chairing One Parent Families (now Gingerbread).

The search for a new Chief Executive Officer is currently underway, led by Career Ready’s Board of Trustees and Korn Ferry, with the aim of the appointee taking up the role in the New Year. In the meantime, Anne will continue to lead Career Ready with the same energy, passion and commitment which has transformed Career Ready over the last six years.

Sandy Begbie CBE, Chairman of the Career Ready Board of Trustees, said the following:

During her time here, Anne has provided leadership and vision to put Career Ready on the map as a charity delivering first-class employability programmes in schools and colleges across the UK.

Anne Spackman said the following regarding her departure:

It’s been a privilege to lead this organisation, working with such a high-calibre and highly lovely staff team, supportive trustees and board members, committed volunteers – and, of course, with our students, who are the purpose of everything we do.

Following the recent investment by the Inspiring Futures Foundation and with Career Ready reaching record numbers of students, this is a good time for a new person to drive the next phase of our journey to be the leading provider of employer-led careers programmes in the UK.

“A clear and ambitious growth strategy”

During her time as CEO, Anne Spackman has seen the charity increase the number of young people it supports, from 3,000 to over 45,000 every year, turned the organisation’s finances from deficit to successive years of surplus, as well as overseeing the recruitment of a highly-motivated staff team.

Anne’s successor will inherit an organisation which has completed year one of a clear and ambitious three-year growth strategy. That strategy has strong support from Trustees and Advisory Board members who are actively engaged in programme delivery. The new Chief Executive will have the opportunity to drive that strategy and to make Career Ready the recognised leader in its field.
