About this report

The Power of Volunteering

To mark Volunteers Week 2021, our latest research report explores the difference volunteering makes to the lives of individuals and their employers.

Over the years we have built relationships with employers of all sizes and sectors to give young people the network of workplace support and opportunities they need to thrive in education, employment, and life.

Through these relationships, young people on our programme develop vital workplace skills and experience, grow in confidence, and achieve higher academic and career attainment.

Following the launch of our recent research into the long-term impact of our programme on young people, we want to explore the wider impact of our work. By exploring this, we believe we can strengthen the partnerships needed to help deliver systemic change in education and employment.

“We’re adding volunteering hours to our social impact reporting, which is a very big benefit – but another big benefit is employee engagement. It generates energy.”

“I started volunteering to help a young person
fulfil their potential. Not only am I witnessing that impact, but it’s enriching my own sense of purpose.”

What we recommend

What we recommend

The evidence is clear that volunteering is a time commitment well spent. Not only do young people experience life changing outcomes, volunteers and employers are also rewarded for their investment.

Based upon the findings of our research, we have three core recommendations for how the power of volunteering can be enhanced further by employers, individuals, and volunteering organisations, including ourselves.
