Choose from short-term to longer-term commitments to suit your schedule and business. Whatever volunteer role you decide to take, as you guide students on their journeys to the world of work, you will find that you and your colleagues are also on a unique journey of development.
Becoming a Career Ready mentor is a fun, flexible way to inspire a young person, unlock their true potential, and guide them through the early stages of their career journey.
You work one-to-one with a student and can have a real impact on their development. Meeting on average twice a term over two academic years, S5 and S6, you support their studies with advice and real life experience. It’s also a great opportunity to develop your own coaching skills and spot future talent.
My mentor went to so much effort to help me in my plans for the future. He supported me through some of the toughest times in my life, but most importantly he always believed in me and because of this I’ve become who I am today.

Getting involved with our paid internship programme enables your organisation to help shape the future workforce, build a diverse talent pipeline, and develop the skills of your employees.
During the four internship, students get to put their learning into practice in the workplace and become valued team members. It gives you the chance to influence a crucial period in a young person’s life and improve your or your employees’ management skills.
Workplace visits are an exciting and time-sensitive way for you to help young people. It’s often the first time our students have entered a workplace and it’s an experience that can have a deep effect on them. Hearing their reactions to your familiar day-to-day environment can also make you see your own business in a new light.
This is the chance for you, as a volunteer, to meet students in their schools and talk to them directly about your experience and expertise.
Whether it’s a one-off, once a year or more regular activity, you will find that delivering a masterclass is the perfect way for you to broaden the horizons of young people in your local area and get them interested in your business or industry.
The LAB (Local Advisory Board) is the vital link between the Local Authority, its schools and the business community. Joining the LAB gives you a say in how the Career Ready programme is delivered in schools and you can ensure that the skills students are developing are relevant to your business. Working with the LAB furthers links between your company and the community and widens your network with local employers.
