Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer was one of our seven founder supporters in 2002, all of whom still work with us today. We are proud to have worked with Freshfields for over 17 years to help provide young people from disadvantaged backgrounds with the skills, confidence and attitudes needed to enjoy rewarding futures.
Over the life of our partnership, Freshfields has supported our programme delivery in London and, more recently, in Manchester, as well as providing financial and in-kind support.
How we work together
David’s passion for helping young people and championing of our work has helped promote volunteering amongst all staff, cascading support for our work throughout the firm, resulting in programme delivery and financial support.
Through our partnership, Freshfields makes a visible difference in local communities and increases the employability of 30,000 young people a year.
Over the course of our partnership, they have supported our Plus Programme across 45 schools and colleges in London and Manchester, resulting in:
- 107 mentors
- 108 paid internships
- Masterclass presenters
- Workplace visits
- Local Advisory Board members
- A Capital Experience
In 2019, Freshfields extended their partnership to include Manchester as well as London. Freshfields now provide an additional three paid internships for young people in Manchester.
Financial and in-kind support
As a long-standing partner, Freshfield’s financial support continues to support our growth and sustainability across the UK.
Through annual financial donations, Freshfields supports the delivery of our three-year growth strategy which will see the number of young people we support treble from 30,000 to 90,000 by the end of 2021.
Freshfields has also supported our work through funding and in-kind support, such as pro-bono legal advice worth over £500,000.
Freshfields began working with Career Ready in 2002 and has since gone on to provide 107 mentors and 108 paid internships.
Freshfields has strengthened our programme by introducing new elements on the back of each year’s experience. For example, each intern goes through a formal assessment day. As with real jobs, not all get through, all get the benefit of the experience and feedback.
Liam Symonds joined Freshfields as an intern and subsequently became a Trainee Solicitor at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer in 2018.
Joshua Mehigan from Colchester Institute also had his internship extended from four to six weeks due to his strong performance.
