Internships help you build skills that will give you an advantage over other applicants when applying to roles.
Who are you?
My name is Tobi Ogunlade and I’m a student from Barking and Dagenham College. I completed my internship in summer 2016 at Citi.
How did you feel before your internship?
I had no knowledge about Citi as a business or about what Internal Audit or Wholesale Credit Risk involved as departments. It was great to get a feel of how Citi operates during my internship.
I also enjoyed working with more experienced colleagues within the Internal Audit Sector – this helped me to develop my current skills and to build up new skills too.
Why do you think internships are important for young people?
Internships are important because they give you practical experience in the world of work. They help you build skills that will give you an advantage over other applicants when applying to roles.
What advice would you give to others before their internship?
Take every opportunity that comes your way. Ask questions and always be involved because internships are an opportunity for you to learn.
Once you know the company you are going to work for, research them and show some interest in what you do. My internship has helped build me up for my future aspirations.
Why would you recommend Career Ready?
You will leave with valuable experience. Being a part of the Career Ready programme was a great decision and one that will help me in the future.
