Career Ready gave me the opportunity to network with professionals in the construction sector.
Who are you?
My name is Yehya Hawila and I’m a student at Paddington Academy in London. I am the runner up of this year’s AstraZeneca STEM Student of the Year Award 2016 in the Engineering category.
How did you feel before the programme?
I wasn’t confident about what I wanted to do in the future, however Career Ready helped me to find a career ambition and gave me the opportunity to network with professionals in the construction sector.
How do you feel to have won this award?
It’s a great way to end the programme – It’s a once in a lifetime experience and it’s thanks to the effort I put in and the support I got while on the programme. I’m so grateful to have been selected to talk about my experiences.
What was the most important influence on you on the programme?
My internship at Costain Skansk JV – getting first-hand experience of the world of work before actually going into work has prepared me for the challenges you face at work and how they differ from school.
What skills have you developed?
My organisational skills – I was able to prioritise important work and the internship helped me to understand how I can structure my days.
Thanks to Career Ready I’ve been lucky enough to gain a place on a degree funded apprenticeship programme at Costain, where I interned. I’ve now got a strong foundation on which to build my future.
