Career Ready has made me who I am today and given me the confidence to reach my goals

Career Ready has made me who I am today and given me the confidence and self-belief to reach my goals.

Lucy Drummand, from Belfast Metropolitan College, a nominee for Career Ready’s Sir Win Bischoff Award, talks about how her time on the Career Ready programme has helped her develop the skills, confidence, and qualities to kick-start a successful future.

I used to be a very anxious and shy person who struggled with school. Career Ready has made me who I am today and given me the confidence and self-belief to reach my goals and dream of going to uni.

Thanks to Career Ready I was able to experience an internship at Citi Bank and get support from my mentor Phil.

Thanks to these my interpersonal skills have really developed, as have my communication skills, so I’m much confident when giving presentations, plus I’m now much more confident about who I am – a friendly potential employee!

Phil, who was my mentor, has been such a significant influence on me. He’s the one who encouraged me to aim high and believe that I could achieve anything I set my mind to. Without his support, and the opportunities provided by Career Ready, I would not have become the person I am today – I don’t think the person I was before would believe I am now applying for university!
