Students gain so much from the programme – it can be truly life changing.
Who are you?
My name is Gail Forbes and I’m the Coordinator of the Career Ready programme at Barr’s Hill School in Coventry. This year I’ve won the Santander Employability Champion Award 2017 for Wales, the West and the Midlands.
What does your role involve?
Building relationships with students, mentors, employers, LAB members and parents to deliver a holistic programme that meets each student’s individual needs.
There’s a lot of networking and organisational work needed to ensure the programme runs and delivers great outcomes for our students.
What are the benefits for students?
Individual mentoring and the chance to speak with someone experienced in business. Relevant and interactive masterclasses and visits. They also get an in-depth employment placement and something really valuable for their CV, UCAS Personal Statement and future applications.
What do you find rewarding?
Seeing students grow and develop and seeing their successes as they move on. Some students gain so much from the programme – it can be truly life changing.
How do you feel to be a Santander winner?
It’s a big surprise! I’m very grateful though and it’s a great way of raising the profile of Career Ready both within my school and externally; and it allows me to thank my incredible LAB, who nominated me, for all their support.
